A Little Bit About Myself
In 1992, I had a life changing experience. I lost my right leg in a dramatic car accident. I spent days on a life support machine but through sheer determination, I now live life to the full. My road to recovery was full of many challenges from learning how to walk again at the age of 28, to adapting my life as a disabled person. The year 2002 was a milestone; I started playing golf on a sunday morning with a group of friends. Determined to play the game I now love, I walked 18 holes at my local golf course. This was a challenge in itself as I was left in pain, however my passion for golf and improving my game had begun. A few weeks later I bought myself a 3-wheel golf buggy and ever since then I try and play at least 3 times a week. Together with my 2 sons we joined our local golf club and have enjoyed 8 years playing in both competitive and social golf. My handicap has come down dramatically in the last few years with the help of coaching professionals and the support of friends and family. A big help has been playing in tournamnets around the country and in Europe. In some of these I play alongside my partner and son Tom who plays off 5. Although he is an able bodied golfer, I find myself being able to watch and learn from not only the way he plays but also the way he prepares and practices, aswell as taking money off of him on the odd occassion.
After 8 years of participating in various disabled and amputee specfic golf organisation tournaments I have made it my goal to practice practice practice so that I can keep improving and reach my overall target of representing Great Britain in the 2016 Paralympic games as a member of the golf team.
